UMBC/UMSON Partnership Policies

  • Incoming freshmen must identify as Pre-Nursing within the first semester of attendance at UMBC for the BSN Pathway (Second Degree MSN-E Pathway may be identified as late as junior year)
  • Students have up to three years from matriculation to UMBC to complete their pre-requisites (for BSN Pathway)
  • Majority of coursework must be completed at UMBC.  Students can use up to 16 credits of AP, IB, CLEP (with qualifying scores) and transfer credit from community college toward  their pre-reqs.  Though UMBC does not bring in grades from transfer credit, UMSON factors ALL grades into the required cumulative GPA.
  • UMSON may accept credit differently than UMBC so students should work with UMBC Advising Staff to ensure how this credit will be accepted by UMSON.  For example, only AP scores of 4 or higher are allowed to count for pre-reqs.
  • GPA Requirements for successful matriculation to UMSON are as follows:
    • 3.25 Cumulative GPA for BSN Pathway
    • 3.0 Cumulative GPA for MSN-E Pathway
    • 3.0 GPA in the listed science pre-reqs
      • CHEM 120 (or CHEM 102)
      • CHEM 124L (or CHEM 102L)
      • BIOL 273 (or BIOL 375)
      • BIOL 273L
      • BIOL 251
      • BIOL 251L
      • BIOL 252
      • BIOL 252L
