Pre-Dental Hygiene

Pathway to Dental Hygiene

Students interested in pursuing a career in Dental Hygiene begin their studies at UMBC by following our Pre-Dental Hygiene curriculum, which is approximately 70 credits, depending on the professional school to which they plan to apply. Students may choose to complete their pre-requisites at UMBC and then apply directly to a Dental Hygiene program. Most Dental Hygiene programs at the baccalaureate level are two years, leading to a Bachelor’s of Science (BS) degree. The majority of UMBC’s Pre-Dental Hygiene students enter the University of Maryland School of Dentistry’s Program in Dental Hygiene.
